Kim ll-Sung was born on April 15th, 1912 in Mangyondae, Korea. Originally his name was Kim Sun Ju, but because of his great skill in the guerrilla fighting style, he took the name of Kim ll-Sung, who was an earlier guerrilla fighter. After WWII ended and Korea was split by the 38th parallel, Kim took control over North Korea. He is most famously known for starting the Korean war. Backed by the soviets, Kim worked towards spreading communism throughout Korea, and in his act to spread communism, Kim launched attacks along the 38th parallel and also throughout South Korea. Strategically his goals for war had been to capture and control the entire peninsula, but due to UN and American intervention and The Battle At Inchon he was not able to succeed. After the cease fire in 1953, he was the communist leader of North Korea from 1948 until his death on July 8th, 1994. Kim died of heart failure.
